Spring/Summer Aerification Dates

Please make note of the following greens aerification dates:

Blackheath - March 7 & 8

Marsh Hawk - March 21 & 22

Blackheath - May 31(closes at noon) - June 1

Marsh Hawk - June 21 & 22

Blue Heron -July 5 & 6

Blackheath – August 22 & 23

Marsh Hawk – September 6 & 7

Aerification is needed to relieve compaction, remove thatch, create channels for oxygen, nutrients, and water to enter the root zone and to prevent detrimental gases from building up in the soil.  To take advantage of the many benefits aerification provides, there has been an additional date added to the Marsh Hawk and Blackheath greens.  We strive to give you the best putting surfaces that we can throughout the year.

In the picture below you can see a previous aerification hole, as indicated by the red arrow. The yellow arrow indicates the thatch layer or in other words a layer of dead grass. A thick thatch layer can lead to a soft, spongy green that has thin turf coverage and is undesirable to play.
