Many people wonder what golf course maintenance does during
the winter time. Here is one of the winter projects we are currently working on
for Black Heath #18. The post below shows the first of two sub-drainage
sections that will be completed this winter.
Ford's Colony Country Club is a multi-course facility that consist of three courses: Black Heath, Marsh Hawk, and Blue Heron. The purpose of this blog is to ensure membership is aware and informed about maintenance practices and their purposes for maintaining turf health and playability for the game of golf. This blog will contain important dates such as greens aerification for each individual course.

Turf Damaged Caused by Pull Carts
The pictures
above show damage on BlackHeath #4 that was observed a few weeks ago caused by
a pull cart that went through a wet area.
As a
maintenance staff we have developed a few rules for pull carts to help maintain
Fords Colony to the highest standard and prevent avoidable problems for future
course conditions. Our guidelines do not cover every situation possible, so
therefore we ask pull cart user to use their best judgement or when in doubt
just don’t do it.
Pull carts should:
• Have
wide wheels (three to four inches) or air-filled tires,
• Be
kept 15 to 30 feet from the edges of tees and greens,
• Be
directed around green-side bunkers and not be taken into the narrow gaps
between greens and bunkers,
• Never
be taken across excessively wet areas, and
• Not
be used following periods of heavy rainfall or under persistently wet
conditions.
